About Shiuan Laoshi
My name is Shiuan and I am from Taipei Taiwan R.O.C. I have lived in Rotterdam since 1998. I am a certified Mandarin Chinese teacher with certificate from Leiden University ICLON. My parents and my grandfather are all professors of traditional Chinese literature in Taipei, so I have been immersed in Chinese language, literature and culture since a young age. Originally I was trained as an architect. So I have a masters degree in architecture (2000). Besides teaching, I am also a writer. I have a column in a design magazine in Taiwan- Interior Magazine Taiwan, and 30,000 copies are sold per month. I write about architecture in the Netherlands and Western Europe. So you know that I am also a public intellectual who applies her language skills and professional knowledge.

About my students:
I already have over one hundred students. My youngest student started at the age of 3 and my oldest student is 79 years old in 2024. The professional backgrounds of my students: teachers and academic staff, civil servants, IT, entrepreneurs, biologists, civil engineers, electrical engineers, company managers, doctors, therapists, artists, architects, designers, lawyers, bankers, university, high school and elementary school students. I have guided many students from A1 to C2 results for Tocfl or HSK exams. You learn to speak, understand, read, type and write. Results every hour! At home my 3 children were raised fully trilingual: Mandarin Chinese, Dutch and English. In terms of Mandarin Chinese, they read, write, speak and communicate with modern media fluently.
